There was a sense of utmost difference in the group now, but a prideful uniqueness that settled in.
Xirie was impressed with the two colts, and oddly amused they could put up with Spektrum.
She started to notice however Sigma was not talking, and decided to try to speak out of concern.
"You know this has no responsibility to you, you can leave if you want." Xirie noted
"And let the whole town take it from behind? No way." Sigma laughed with a smirk
"But its so dangerous especially without the experience." Xirie tried once more as she felt the need to protect the two colts
"You hear that Midnight? Maybe we should go earn some Experience points so our level is high enough for brainless water monsters." Sigma joked
"Your such a nerd" Midnight laughed back with a smile
"I dont understand, how do you level up?" Xirie asked in awe
Sigma looked to Midnight and began laughing intensely as a chilling wind came through.
"Ah shoot im no where near my winter coat, this is some shit." Sigma complained as he tried to shiver
"No time for jokes Sigma, somethings not right with this" Midnight noted suspiciously
"Come on, Xirie tell him hes just worrying to much..............?" Sigma asked as he tried to get Xiries attention
"They know we re coming, i can feel it." Xirie replied
Sigma looked to Midnight once more and then took attention to his Pip-Buck.
"Get something good Sigma, im gonna take a look up above and see whats up" Midnight said quickly as he took through the trees
Sigma, having time to prepare, took note of his inventory.
2 Pistols, a shotgun, a rifle and 3 blades. A bar of chocolate and half a can of soda.
"Seems about right." Sigma said confidently as he began to drink the soda.
"Sigma! Come on!" Midnight shouted from a distance
"Dont worry Sigma, as long as we keep watch, you have all the time you need. They wont attack something that knows theyre coming." Xirie informed
"Gotcha, ill watch front, you get my back." Sigma ordered as he crushed the pop can in his hooves "How you doin up there midnight? See anything?"
"Actually, the treeline isnt to average, you should keep note of that....Wait wait! Treeline for sure here they come! Lookout!" Midnight shouted as he flew back down
Sigma pulled his rifle from his holster and leaned against a tree to steady himself. While Xirie and Midnight stationed in the open thinking they could lure the breakers in.
"Alright alright, pop em in the head as they come in, and we will take the ones that get in to close alright?" Midnight ordered
"No no no! The heart the heart! Its their weakspot trust me!" Sigma shouted as he saw the brush change in the distance
The brush gave in and soon multiple breakers came marching from the treeline. Almost like the living dead they stumbled and bumped into eachother. Yet the awkward movement made them a hard target to shoot as Sigma tried to focus.
Soon after a few shots however, the breakers split into groups. And some started to use magic to teleport short distances. While others began to fly above the trees.
"Shit!! we gotta hold up somewhere where they wont get behind us!" Sigma shouted as he continued to fire
"We re in the middle of a forest! How would that work!??" Midnight roared back
Sigma continued to check his rear as he noticed the flyers landing, directly in their choke point.
Sigma started to speak, but slowly felt his tounge slip as the breakers came in closer. His aim swayed and he lost his focus as his body became colder, colder, painfully chilled.
"SIGMA!!!" Midnight shouted as he threw his blade into the breaker closest to him.
Sigma fell to the floor and tried to regain focus, only to feel his body take in more from the breakers near Midnight and Xirie
"Dont.....Dont let em get to you! We can.....fight it!" Xirie gritted as she stumbled to move
"Sigma....my knife! I-I can keep...going!" Midnight struggled to speak as crawled closer to Sigma, who was on the ground trying to close his eyes, feeling them freeze over as his eye lids froze to his face.
Sigma grabbed the blade, but failed to throw it close enough to Midnight. Giving the breakers more room to close in from all directions.
Colder, colder, colder.
Midnight crawled slowly to the knife, and upon reaching it noticed a hoof in front of it. He starred at the floor trying to resist looking up, but could not control himself as he was forced to stare back at the breaker above.
Midnight fought as hard as possible, only to feel himself slipping further into the cold. Sigma was almost completely frozen as most of the breakers were coming his way, while Xirie was moments away from suffocating.
Death, death, death. Thoughts shot through Sigmas mind as he refused to give into the pain. He felt his body burn with intense shock as he was physically unable to even blink.
He made a last decision to force a movement, as he noticed frozen tears coming from Xiries eyes.
"Ccc....Cc...Cccc....." Sigma chattered as he shoved all force into his leg, breaking it clean off and sending a warm streak through his body. His eyes were barely able to see the breakers up front faint from exhaustion, Giving a shock of pain yet a crooked idea.
In a panic, Sigma continued to force his body to move, chipping skin off his body and breaking both his front legs. More and more breakers came to the ground as Sigma gained his ability to scream in pain once more.
"FUCKERS!" Sigma shouted as he turned his last leg, breaking it in half and sending the breakers into a spiraling seizure.
They all shot from side to side, flailing their legs and twisting their bodies as Midnight felt the cold melt away.
Midnight stood slowly, feeling cautious to look for more breakers, only to see them all lifelessly die off in the vicinity.
".....Sigma..." He mumbled as he turned to see Sigma in pieces, slowly gaining back his life only to have it run out in sheer blood. "Sigma! Sigma!"
Xirie stood shortly after Midnight, and noticed Midnight standing above Sigma. Rapidly trying to seal the broken limbs.
She slowly walked up to Sigma as she picked a bone out of one of his legs, then, layed next to him as she closed her eyes.
"What do we do!!!! Hes bleeding out!!" Midnight shouted in fear
"I can save him, but promise me when im done you bury me." Xirie replied as she send magic through her horn
"...What!? NO WE CAN GET HELP RIGHT!?" Midnight roared in panic
"No time, no other way. Get to the door, its under the castle barracks. Before you bury me...take my colar bone. I can guide you as a spirit and a spirit only." Xirie said in sadness as she began to cry
"WAIT STOP!" Midnight screamed as a feild of magic threw him back twenty feet. He stood to see a rain of magic as he notcied Xirie fading away into the air.
Her skin disipated and her muscles burned into bright flares as all of the blood in her body entered Sigmas. Soon only a skeleton was left as Sigma gasped for breath.
"What the fuck!? What happened did we freeze over???" Sigma shouted
Midnight looked in dispair as Sigma quickly noticed the skeleton in front of him
"What is this...who is this!?" Sigma shouted knowing it was female
"She gave her life for us, i say before i waste time explaining we do as she said and bury her." Midnight said slowly as he began to tear up
"Who!?" Sigma snapped back
"Xirie" Midnight mumbled
Sigma looked at the skeleton, and closed his eyes. Suddenly the realization that life could slip so easily hit the two.
"I thought we could take them, im sorry." Sigma apologized
"We all did, and its nothing to be sorry for. From now on we should be more cautious, and move from safer areas rather than the open. Seems like they attack from open areas." Midnight said as he noticed the breakers bodies "So....how did you take them all out?" He asked as he picked up Xiries skeleton
"I just, kinda guessed. When i broke my leg they lost their focus and started spazzing out. I just kinda went with it." Sigma said as he dug a hole with his hooves
"Dont risk it again, we re brothers out here. And im not letting you make any sacrifices" Midnight demanded as he put the skeleton into the hole
"No promises" Sigma replied with a smirk
"Dont bury her yet, theres one more thing we need" Midnight said as he broke the colar bone off
"Whoa dude, violated much?" Sigma asked in shock
"She told me to, she said she would guide me as a spirit." Midnight replied as he tied a cloth from his blade onto the bone. He then wrapped it around his neck securely, and felt a sense of confidence knowing he did the right thing for his comrade.
"Whatever she said bro, seems like she knew alot of the right things. I bet she made it into heaven right?" Sigma said in passion
"Oh yeah, especially since it went to the pony who will save Canterlot" Midnight replied as he raised his hoof
"That, i can promise." Sigma said in joy as he bumped his hoof into Midnights
The two colts walked across the field, and into the tree line. They were 3 miles from the castle, and could easily find shelter within the market. Time was limited to their knowledge however, as they found the air getting colder and colder.
a bit cliched with the guiding as a spirit bit, but all in all it just gets better.
